LAF boosts security measures in Arsal vicinity

On 25 July 17, the Lebanese Army Forces boosted its security measures in the vicinity of Arsal, to prevent the infiltration of militants from Arsal outskirts into refugee encampments or the town. The army ran patrols in the eastern chain in a bid to prevent any infiltration into the Lebanese interior. This came in the wake of artillery and missile shelling by Hizbullah fighters, during the clamping down on Nusra Front armed elements.

Lebanese Army reinforced its positions in Ras Baalbeck and Qaa

he Lebanese Army beefed up its military and field positions bringing more reinforcements to the towns of Ras Baalbek, al-Qa'a, and surrounding areas.

The Army also dispatched patrols in the region and set up new military posts in preparation to foil any attempt by militants to infiltrate the two towns.

Hezbollah launched a second attack to clear militants out of Arsal outskirts

As the negotiations following the first offensive were not successful, the Hezbollah launched a fierce ground offensive to clear militants from the outskirts of Arsal, backed by Syrian warplanes and artillery - mainly on the Syrian side of the border -, while the Lebanese army ensure a defensive role by targetting any militants approaching the town of Arsal, and helping some families of refugees to leave the town. 

A man was arrested for connections with Daesh

A citizen, Khoder Deeb Fliti, was arrested by the Army Intelligence in Arsal, on charges of being involved in security acts in favor of "Daesh", and in trading and transferring weapons and explosives to target Lebanese army patrols.

Lebanese Army tightened security around Arsal

Lebanese Army units tightened security measures around Arsal town in northeast Lebanon, after Hezbollah launched an attack to clear militants from its outskirts. 

Soldiers blocked off all roads leading the hills east of Arsal where Syrian-based militants are deployed. Army checkpoints were also closely monitoring movements at the entrances of the town.  Measures also included running patrols and setting-up fixed and mobile checkpoints on main and secondary roads.

Hezbollah launched a first attack to clear militants from Arsal outskirts

Syrian forces and Hezbollah fighters targeted militant positions on the outskirts of Arsal with artillery, missiles and airstrikes in an effort to force militants to lay down their weapons and leave the area. However, the following negotiations were not successful. 

Army arrests two terror suspects in Arsal

The Lebanese Army arrested two suspects on terror charges in northeast Lebanon, a source told The Daily Star.

A unit from Army Intelligence apprehended two men for “involvement in terrorist acts” during a raid in Arsal, a town on the Lebanese-Syrian border, the source added.

The two suspects, identified as Syrian national Abdel-Malek Kanaan and Lebanese national Khodr Deeb al-Fleeti, also known as Khodr al-Atrash, were detained while in Fleeti's house in Arsal’s Hai al-Shafaq neighborhood around 4 p.m.

Syrian strikes killed 4 members of Jabhat Fatah al-Sham

Syrian warplanes Wednesday bombed militant posts on the border with Lebanon, a security source told The Daily Star.

Syrian strikes regularly target militants on the Lebanese border, near Arsal, which is also targeted by Lebanese Army units to prevent the militants from advancing.

Syrian strikes Tuesday on the Qalamoun mountains left four members of Jabhat Fatah al-Sham dead.
