The Lebanese Army arrested two suspects on terror charges in northeast Lebanon, a source told The Daily Star.

A unit from Army Intelligence apprehended two men for “involvement in terrorist acts” during a raid in Arsal, a town on the Lebanese-Syrian border, the source added.

The two suspects, identified as Syrian national Abdel-Malek Kanaan and Lebanese national Khodr Deeb al-Fleeti, also known as Khodr al-Atrash, were detained while in Fleeti's house in Arsal’s Hai al-Shafaq neighborhood around 4 p.m.

Fleeti was wanted by Lebanese authorities on charges of "assisting terrorists and trade of arms," the source said.

The Lebanese Army has been cracking down on terror suspects in pre-emptive operations against suspected extremist sleeper cells, particularly on the border area with Syria.

Militants belonging to Daesh (ISIS) and Jabhat Fatah al-Sham - formerly known as the Nusra Front - are entrenched in the mountainous region near Arsal.
