Protests continue on 12th day
Protesters began blocking streets across Lebanon with cars and piles of tires Monday morning, marking the 12th day of a national uprising against the government.This latest action come after a poster circulated on social media late Sunday, calling on all citizens to obstruct the country’s roads with their cars. "A million cars on the street, what will they do with them?" it read. Scores of protesters continued to block Beirut’s Ring Bridge with apartment furniture, including couches and mattresses. The blockade of the highway began Sunday evening with protesters diverting the flow of traffic toward Ashrafieh off the bridge, allowing only ambulances to pass. Main highways connecting north and south Lebanon to Beirut were also blocked. The Halba highway was completely cut off with burning tires and the highway linking Tripoli to Dinnieh was also blocked.In Sidon, dozens of demonstrators cut off the city’s main roads, blocking the north and south entrances with flaming tires. Protestors also blocked downtown Sidon, preventing workers from reaching their shops. The road leading to Electricite du Liban was blocked and protestors barricaded the doors of building to prevent employees from entering.
