National News Agency correspondent on Friday reported that citizen Alaa Abdullah Ajib was killed today by mistake, as he was playing with his friends with hunting rifles.
The 26-year-old man received a bullet in his chest, and was immediately transferred to a hospital in Ashrafieh, where he died.

On 13 May 15, the Lebanese army said it has arrested more than 150 fugitives and suspects during raids it carried out in Beirut, the eastern Bekaa Valley and the northern district of Akkar. In Beirut's central district, Ashrafiyeh and Karantina, the military apprehended 86 people from several nationalities for committing different crimes. Another 77 Syrians were arrested during raids in the central Bekaa and Akkar for illegal entry and driving vehicles and motorcycles without permits. The detainees were referred to the involved authorities to take the appropriate measures against them.

January 27–May, 1990: Both sides pounded the Christian enclave daily. The LF took over army positions in Jounieh, Kesrouan, and the coastline until Beirut, as well as Ashrafieh in Beirut, and the army positioned itself in Metn and the eastern suburbs of Beirut. In the first 18 days, 615 people died, and more than 2,000 were wounded, half of them civilians.

“Leave, leave, O Syrian.” “Beware your enemy, the Syrian is your enemy.” These were some of the slogans disfiguring the walls of Beirut’s Ashrafieh neighborhood this morning, sprayed on last night by a group calling itself “The Soldiers of Christ.” In what they presumably imagined was a witty play on the Islamist “takbeer” cry (meaning “Say ‘Allahu akbar’”), they also stenciled crucifixes with the caption “tasleeb,” the word for the act of crossing oneself. After a series of weeks in which Syrian civilians in Lebanon have been shot at and stabbed, tied up and publicly beaten, harassed by armed ‘patrolmen’, and abused by soldiers (by the army’s own admission), this kind of ethno-sectarian bigotry is, sadly, nothing new.

January 1, 1985: Heavy shelling took place over Kfarshima, Hadath, Baabda, Hazmieh, Fayadieh, Yarzeh, Arayya, Sin al-Fil, Dekwaneh, Ashrafieh, Jdeideh, Broummana, Beit Mery, Mansourieh, Ajaltun, Ballouneh, Klayaat, Aley, and Khaldeh, killing an unknown number of people.

July 22, 1983: Syrian and PSP artillery pounded East Beirut residential areas, killing 18 people and injuring 66.

June 20, 1983: In Ashrafieh, East Beirut, two civilians were killed and 20 wounded in a heavy round of shelling over the area.

Early February 1983: The PSP and the Syrian Army fired artillery shells and Grad rockets on several Christian residential neighborhoods in East Beirut (Ashrafieh, Badaro, Palace of Justice, and General Directorate of General Security headquarters, Dora, Bouchrieh, and Zalka), wounding 37 civilians and killing two General Security guards.

In 1978 the strategic alliance between the Lebanese Front and Syria came to an end. Chamoun and Frangieh were calling openly for Syrian troops to withdraw from Lebanon, and some minor incidents had occurred between Christian militias and ADF troops (namely in North Lebanon). On Fabruary 7, 1978, a clash erupted in front of the Lebanese military barrack of the military school in Fayadieh in the northeastern suburb of Beirut. An ADF (Syrian) unit had set up a checkpoint in front of the barrack, despite several requests by the Lebanese Army for its removal. When the checkpoint was not removed, the Lebanese Army attacked it. This marked the open confrontation between the Lebanese army (and the Christian militias) and the ADF. As a result, the ADF shelled the school and then shelled Christian residential neighborhoods of Ain al-Remmaneh, Karm al-Zeitoun, and Badaro in East Beirut; at least 100 civilians were killed and 200 wounded.

A wave of shelling destroyed several residential building blocks in the east Beirut neighborhoods of Ashrafieh, Nasra, Saifi, and Tabaris. Five civilians were killed and 12 wounded in the crossfire on the Chiyah- Ain al-Remmaneh front line in Greater Beirut. A mortar shell fell on a house in Furn al-Chebbak, killing one person and injuring four. When the neighbors gathered to help, another shell fell, killing five (including a woman and a child,) and wounding 14.
