Woman suffers severe burns, foul play suspected | Lebanese Civilians |
A woman from Tyre was admitted to hospital with severe burns Friday. Foul play is suspected, and her husband, who also suffered minor burns, is the prime suspect. Marie Antoinette Fakhoury, 27, was rushed to hospital with burns that her husband said resulted from an accident as she “was cleaning her body with alcohol after a bath.” Neighbors dismissed the story as a fabrication. After receiving emergency treatment at a hospital in Tyre, Fakhoury was transferred to Jeitawi Hospital in Beirut. She remains in critical condition. Police have launched an investigation into the incident to determine whether the husband intentionally caused the blaze. His testimony to interrogators was unconvincing, according to a security source, and he will remain in custody while police conduct a preliminary probe. Fakhoury’s husband belongs to the Kanaan family, from the coastal city of Byblos. He married Fakhoury two years ago against the will of her mother, according to neighbors, and was blamed for an ongoing dispute between the two. |
