Syrian arrested for arms smuggling near Lebanon border

A Syrian man has been arrested for his alleged involvement in illegal purchase and transport of arms to extremist militants deployed on the Lebanon-Syria border, General Security said Thursday.
A statement said the suspect, who was only identified as A.B., belonged to the Nusra Front “terrorist group.” It did not say when and where he was apprehended.
General Security said the arrest was part of its ongoing effort to “track terror sleeper cells.”

Arrest of one on suspicion of relation with terrorist groups in Arsal

NNA - An army intelligence patrol in Arsal arrested the so-called Youssef Abdullah Awdeh in his "pickup" coming from Arsal terrain, on suspicion of his relation with terrorist groups, army command said in a communiqué on Monday.

After interrogation with him, Awdeh admitted that he has in coordination with others equipped the pickup with a "secret hideout" in the aim of smuggling arms to the benefit of one of the terrorist organizations.

Alleged arms smuggler arrested near Arsal

The military said it has arrested an arms trafficker in the Arsal-Wadi Hmeid border region of northeast Lebanon and recovered a collection of weapons hidden inside his vehicle.

Army bombards Aarsal outskirts

On 23 Sep 15, the Lebanese Armed Forces bombarded the outskirts of Aarsal after a number of gunmen was spotted in the area. The LAF also used heavy artillery to target the gunmen movements in the outskirts of Wadi El Khel.

On 22 Sep 15, an Army Intelligence patrol arrested in Shebaa town citizen Mohammad Hojeiry, who was driving a pick-up with nine Syrians on board, in an attempt to smuggle them from Arsal to Shebaa outskirts.

Army arrests 4 in raid on refugee encampments

On 18 Sep 15, the Lebanese army arrested 4 Syrian suspects in a raid on the encampments of refugees in the northeastern town of Aarsal, the army said. The army raided encampments of Syrian refugees in Arsal in search for suspects where an exchange of fire erupted and led to the injury of Syrian Shadi Moussa Moussa, the Army Orientation Directorate said in a statement. None of the troops was harmed. Moussa, confessed that he belongs to one of the terrorist groups and that he had prepared a belt of explosives that he planned to detonate in one of the army positions.
