Protesters resolute on eighth day despite Aoun appeal
President Michel Aoun’s first public address Thursday since the outbreak of street protests did not meet the expectations of the Lebanese.
Instead, demonstrators expressed their disappointment and doubled down on their call for the resignation of the government.
A few hours after Aoun spoke, confrontation shook Riad al-Solh, when a group that appeared to be mostly made up of Hezbollah supporters joined the demonstration.
Scuffles broke out before riot police arrived on the scene, forming a human chain that separated the group from the protesters.
By evening, squares across the country were filled with people.
Earlier in the day, similar to the past week, people headed to the streets in Tripoli, Jal al-Dib, Zouk Mosbeh, Jbeil, Tyre, Nabatieh and Aley.
