General Security Arrests Syrian Nusra Members Linked to Arsal Servicemen Executions

On 16 Feb 16, the General Security announced the arrest of five (5) Syrian members of the al-Qaida-affiliated al-Nusra Front group, one of whom is linked to the execution of soldiers kidnapped by the group and the Islamic State in 2014. They confessed after interrogation to forming a terror cell aimed at carrying out bombings through booby-trapped cars. One detainee is a religious al-Nusra leader in the Arsal region in northeastern Lebanon and Syria's al-Qalamoun near the border. He headed an armed group that took part in the Arsal battles against the army in August 2014.

Soldier killed in clashes with Daesh on outskirts of Qaa

NNA - A Lebanese Army soldier was killed in the clashes that erupted on Thursday morning with Daesh on the outskirts of Qaa, NNA field reporter said.

Daesh members were also killed and wounded in the clashes.

Lebanon arrests Syrian accused of arms dealing

Lebanon's General Security announced Thursday the arrest of a Syrian national over alleged weapons trading and working with militant groups.

A General Security statement said the Syrian man, identified by the initials A.Aa., confessed to forming a network with three other Syrian nationals which sells weapons and ammunition to militant groups residing in the northeastern border town of Arsal.

Hezbollah kills 3 Nusra fighters along Lebanon border

Hezbollah Monday killed three Al-Qaeda-affiliated Nusra Front gunmen and wounded five others on the outskirts of Lebanon's northeastern border, a security source told The Daily Star.

Hezbollah's Al-Manar television reported in a newsflash that "resistance fighters targeted a group of Nusra Front gunmen with artillery weapons."

The attack occurred in the area of Wadi al-Kheil on the outskirts of Arsal.

No further details were given.

Body of Daesh official found in Arsal outskirts

The body of a Daesh official, Husam Trad, was found shot in the head in Arsal outskirts, NNA field reporter said.

It is worth to note that Trad was killed five days ago by a Daesh member following a dispute inside the organization over fighting against "Nusra Front".
