PSP supporters protest FPM rhetoric and economic situation

Hundreds of Progressive Socialist Party supporters took to the streets of Downtown Beirut Monday in a strong rebuke of Free Patriotic Movement head Gebran Bassil’s aggressive rhetoric over the weekend.The march from the Cola area toward Martyrs’ Square took place during a Cabinet meeting intended to be one of the final sessions before sending the 2020 budget to Parliament for approval.

Young men protest the reopening of Al Naameh landfill

A group of young men gathered at the entrance of the Naameh landfill this afternoon, to protest the recently circulated news about reopening the landfill, and also attempted to cut-off the coastal highway for some time in al-Naameh locality.

Sabaa Party activists storm Parliament

Activists stormed Lebanon’s Parliament building Friday to protest corruption and the country’s deteriorating economic situation.Forty activists fromSabaa political party , wearing T-shirts bearing the slogan “Civil Resistance” were able to enter Parliament’s General Assembly hall. Riot police and the Internal Security Forces arrived on the scene and arrested 10 protesters. Friday’s action was only the first phase of a planned series of “civil resistance” protests, calling on “all people” to join the party in its future demonstrations.

Dozens protest Turkish invasion outside UN headquarters in Beirut

Dozens of people gathered Friday morning in front of the United Nations headquarters in Beirut to protest Turkey's military offensive against Kurdish forces in northern Syria. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan began the offensive two days ago, after having received a green light from U.S. President Donald Trump during a phone call several days earlier. The incursion has opened a major new front in the eight-year Syrian civil war and drawn fierce criticism internationally.

 

Charqiyeh residents organize sit-in

The residents of Charqiyeh staged a sit-in in the town square to protest  the establishment of a landfill for the Nabatiyeh area in the eastern outskirts of their town because of the environmental and health damages, especially since the landfill is intended to be built near residential houses and schools.

Protesters block road facing Ghaziye junction with burning tires

A number of angry yung protesters cut off the southern highway at the Ghaziye junction, facing Al-Amelieh cooperative, with flaming tires, in protest of the deteriorating economic and financial situation.

Residents block Ansar-Doueir road in protest of Bsawfar landfill

A number of residents of Ansar staged a sit-in on the highway of Ansar - Dueir at the invitation of Ansar Organization in the Lebanese Communist Party, in protest against the ministerial decision to re-open the Bsawfar landfill, which has been closed for obver 20 years. 

Protesters block Baalbeck road over bad economy

A few dozen people briefly blocked a main road in Baalbeck Sunday morning, protesting the deteriorating economic situation.The protesters blocked the road with a number of vans parked horizontally across it, preventing cars from passing by. It was reopened shortly after by security forces.

Farmers block Baalbek-Homs road in protest to crops seizure

Farmers and pick-up owners cut off the international road in Baalbek-Homs at the entrance to Hermel in Mahatta locality, near the army checkpoint, in protest at what they called "the Lebanese army's seizure of Lebanese crops under the pretext of smuggling". Most recently is the seizure of about 20 pick-up trucks at the Assi checkpoint in Hermel, loaded with eggplants and peppers. 

Support amid threats for Mashrou’ Leila

Around 150 people gathered in Beirut’s Samir Kassir Square Monday to show their support for local band Mashrou’ Leila in light of mounting pressure by Lebanese Christian groups to cancel an upcoming concert.
