Sidon citizens gathered in front of the municipality to reject the ban on cycling during Ramadan

وأوضح أنّ "القرار الصادر عن ​المديرية العامة لقوى الأمن الداخلي​ والقاضي بمنع تجوّل الدراجات الكهربائية ضمن نطاق ​مدينة صيدا​ طيلة شهر رمضان المبارك، لاقى إستياء شريحة كبرى من أبناء المدينة، الّذين اعتبروا أنّ الخطوة بمثابة عقاب لهم، خصوصًا وأنّ الدراجات الكهربائية تُعتبر وسيلة تنقّل توفّر على قسم كبير عناء أزمة السير".

Workers march against corruption for Labor Day

Hundreds of Lebanese and foreign workers Wednesday joined with members of the Lebanese Communist Party to march toward Martyrs' Square, marking Labor Day by protesting corruption and the misuse of public funds.

Hundreds of protesters took to the streets Sunday to champion the rights of migrant workers, shouting slogans and holding banners that marked Labor Day by calling for the abolishment of Lebanon’s controversial kafala sponsorship system.

Security forces clash with Mansourieh residents over power lines

 A clash broke out between security forces and residents of Mansourieh over the installation of high-voltage power lines.

Installation of the power lines was meant to begin Tuesday, but work was temporarily stopped after residents of Mansourieh marched in protest to one of the two installation sites, located within private property.

The scuffle, which involved Kataeb MP Elias Hankash, occurred after security forces arrived on the private site to oversee the protest, local TV channel MTV reported.

West Baalbek shop owners protest Syrian competition

 Lebanese shop owners in West Baalbek blocked a main road between the villages of Beit Shama and Bidnayel Sunday to protest against competition from Syrian workers, the state-run National News Agency reported. Protesters carried signs calling for the government to control Syrian labor and close markets run by Syrians in order to reduce competition with Lebanese businesses and workers.

Truck drivers protest Syrian job competition

Owners of small trucks staged a demonstration in Zahle Saturday to protest what they called increased competition from Syrian workers in the transport sector, the state-run National News Agency reported.

The drivers protested at Qubb Elias’ vegetable market, saying that Syrian truck drivers “threatened their livelihoods” and calling on Interior Minister Raya El Hassan to find a solution to the problem.

Hundreds brave rain to march against child marriage

Hundreds marched in Beirut Saturday in a protest against child marriage to mark International Women’s Day, which falls on March 8.

Despite heavy rain, protesters gathered in Beirut’s Adlieh neighborhood and marched toward the Parliament building in Downtown under the banner “The younger, the more dangerous.”

The protest, which was organized by the Lebanese Women Democratic Gathering (RDFL) and the National Coalition for Protecting Children from Child Marriage, aimed to pressure Parliament to pass a law to make 18 the minimum legal age for marriage.
