FPM supporters rally to defend Aoun

Free Patriotic Movement supporters gathered Thursday morning outside the Baabda Justice Palace in defense of President Michel Aoun.

Dozens chanted, “All of them,” which is a slogan regularly used by protesters against the Lebanese political class – Aoun included.

“We want to hold accountable those who are corrupt. But there remain clean hands, such as those of Michel Aoun,” one protester said. Many carried pictures of Aoun and said the president was a “red line” that cannot be crossed.

Hezbollah hold counter protest in Nabatieh

The Lebanese Army intervened to separate protesters and supporters of Hezbollah who were holding a counter-protest at the site.

Amal Movement supporters stage protest in Tyre in solidarity with Berri

Tyre prison inmates hunger strike in solidarity with protests

Inmates of Tyre prison are on hunger strike in solidarity with the protests that have swept Lebanon over the past few days, the state-run National News Agency reported Tuesday.

The prisoners are also calling for a general amnesty, promised by Prime Minister Saad Hariri Monday as part of a series of “reforms” aimed at appeasing the Lebanese protesters who have called for the overthrow of the government.

Dozens protest Turkish invasion outside UN headquarters in Beirut

Dozens of people gathered Friday morning in front of the United Nations headquarters in Beirut to protest Turkey's military offensive against Kurdish forces in northern Syria. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan began the offensive two days ago, after having received a green light from U.S. President Donald Trump during a phone call several days earlier. The incursion has opened a major new front in the eight-year Syrian civil war and drawn fierce criticism internationally.

 

Farmers block Baalbek-Homs road in protest to crops seizure

Farmers and pick-up owners cut off the international road in Baalbek-Homs at the entrance to Hermel in Mahatta locality, near the army checkpoint, in protest at what they called "the Lebanese army's seizure of Lebanese crops under the pretext of smuggling". Most recently is the seizure of about 20 pick-up trucks at the Assi checkpoint in Hermel, loaded with eggplants and peppers. 

Support amid threats for Mashrou’ Leila

Around 150 people gathered in Beirut’s Samir Kassir Square Monday to show their support for local band Mashrou’ Leila in light of mounting pressure by Lebanese Christian groups to cancel an upcoming concert.

Regional campaign targets violence against women

Activists in Beirut announced Monday the launch of a new regional campaign to fight violence against women. The EU-funded campaign includes nine civil society organizations in seven countries in the Middle East and North Africa region. In addition to Lebanon, the others include Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Palestine and Tunisia. The campaign is named “Shu Ostik/Ostak” - “What’s Your Story?” in English - and is addressed to both a male and female subject.

Abducted man’s family blocks main highway over lack of progress

Relatives of a man who has been missing for 24 days blocked the Barbara highway Friday morning to protest the lack of progress in solving his disappearance. At 7 a.m., protesters and relatives of Joseph Hanoush, who disappeared in the Bekaa region 24 days ago, blocked the Barbara highway near Jbeil with burning tire. Metn MP Elias Hankash asked Lebanon’s security forces to follow up on the issue. An hour after the protest, the road was reopened and the Civil Defense team in Jbeil extinguished the burning tires.
