Farmers block Baalbek-Homs road in protest to crops seizure

Farmers and pick-up owners cut off the international road in Baalbek-Homs at the entrance to Hermel in Mahatta locality, near the army checkpoint, in protest at what they called "the Lebanese army's seizure of Lebanese crops under the pretext of smuggling". Most recently is the seizure of about 20 pick-up trucks at the Assi checkpoint in Hermel, loaded with eggplants and peppers. 

Mobile phone workers protest outside the Ministry of Telecommunications

Hundreds of mobile phone industry workers gathered outside the Telecommunications Ministry Thursday, calling upon the government to ensure that previously agreed salary allowances will be maintained in new work contracts.

Tenants protest new rent law

A number of members of Lebanese tenant committees protested in front of the Justice Ministry Thursday morning, ahead of a Cabinet session at the Grand Serail.Tenants have previously rallied in protest against the new rent law, which went into effect in March 2017 after the Constitutional Council rejected a legal challenge. At the time, protesters demanded the law be withdrawn, and called on the Lebanon’s executive and legislative branches to extend the old rent law and to work on a national housing policy.

Lebanese protesters unite against incinerators

Following the Ministry of Environment’s most recent decision to implement incinerators across the country, protestors gathered Tuesday afternoon near the ministry to demonstrate their refusal of this decision and their distrust of it.Protestors held signs that tackle Lebanon’s current environmental crisis and waste management system; they chanted slogans that call for accountability with patriotic popular songs playing in the background.

 

People with special needs cut off Mina road to protest their kiosks’ removal

A group of disabled persons and their families in the North have cut off the road leading to the Municipality of al-Mina - Maritime Highway, and set up a tent in the middle of the road, with the participation of a delegation from the Labor Union in the North, including former MP Mesbah al-Ahdab, to protest the removal of their kiosks along the Corniche and the Municipality’s failure to fulfill its promises to hire them.

Factory owners protest pollution crackdown

Over 50 factory owners in Baalbeck briefly blocked the road connecting Qsarnaba to Bednayel to protest a crackdown on factories polluting the Litani River. Industry Minister Wael Abu Faour announced earlier this week that his ministry has temporarily closed 14 factories and industrial plants. He also gave deadlines for factories to prevent polluted and untreated water from entering the river, after which the ministry, in coordination with the Litani River Authority, would start closing down noncompliant businesses.

 

 


 

 

Sit-ins and marches in Sidon, Ain el-Hilweh in protest against Minister of Labor's decision

Lebanese and Palestinians staged sit-ins in the city's Martyrs' Square after the Friday prayers, which turned into a march across the streets of Sidon, under the Lebanese army and security forces watchful eyes. Demonstrators held banners condemning the decision of Lebanon's Labor Minister, and confirming that" Palestinians are refugees, until they can return to their country. They are not foreigners." They called for "further protests, until this decision is dropped." Protests were also staged in the Ain el-Hilweh camp.

The entrances of Ein el-Hilweh and Meih w Mieh Palestinian refugee camps in Sidon have been blocked with burning tires since the early morning hours in protest against the Ministry of Labor’s new decisions.
