Factory owners protest pollution crackdown

Over 50 factory owners in Baalbeck briefly blocked the road connecting Qsarnaba to Bednayel to protest a crackdown on factories polluting the Litani River. Industry Minister Wael Abu Faour announced earlier this week that his ministry has temporarily closed 14 factories and industrial plants. He also gave deadlines for factories to prevent polluted and untreated water from entering the river, after which the ministry, in coordination with the Litani River Authority, would start closing down noncompliant businesses.
