Hundreds protest to oppose special needs support cuts

Hundreds of Lebanese people with special needs and social workers assisting people with disabilities Thursday across Lebanon staged protests to demand that NGOs receive the funds necessary to continue providing services to those in need.

One protester, Nisreen Khader, the director of a social welfare association in Sidon, described the demonstration in the southern coastal city as a “temporary sit-in to obtain the rights of ... those who suffer from various disabilities, deafness, autism and learning difficulties,” according to a statement from the National Union for Disabled Persons.
