Health campaign reaches 2,500 people in Akkar

 The Future Movement office in Akkar held a health campaign that offered tests and medication to over 2,500 people. The “Your Health Equals the World” campaign coincided with the second day of Health Minister Jamil Jabak’s tour of public hospitals in north and south Lebanon. It provided tests for patients with diabetes, cardiovascular and pediatric diseases. Khalaf al-Habtoor Hospital in Akkar’s Hrar helped organize the event, sending a team of its doctors and nurses.

Lebanese Communist Party protests proposed tax increases

The youth sector of the Lebanese Communist Party and the Union of Lebanese Democratic Youth staged a protest Friday in front of the Central Bank in Hamra to oppose reported proposed tax increases.

According to a recent report in Al-Akhbar newspaper, Central Bank Gov. Riad Salameh suggested in a meeting last week that to resolve the country’s housing loans crisis, LL5,000 ($3.33) should be added per every 20 liters of gasoline and the Value-Added Tax also be increased.

Future current sympathisers blocked road

من جهتها، افادت معلومات صحفية بأن مناصري تيار "المستقبل" قطعوا الطريق احتجاجا على كلام ​سالم زهران​ عن رئيس ​الحكومة​ المكلف ​سعد الحريري​.

Amal Movement slams power barges at Zahrani protest

The Amal Movement staged a protest Saturday in front of the Zahrani power plant in southern Lebanon, demanding an end to deals bringing power barges to the country and calling for the establishment of permanent power plants instead.

Speaking at the protest, Amal caretaker Finance Minister Ali Hasan Khalil said, “This stand comes to reassure our commitment to granting the people their right to receive the amount of electricity that meets their needs.”

Protest brings Sidon waste plant to halt

Demonstrators broke into a waste-sorting plant in Sidon Friday to protest the pervasive smell and environmental degradation resulting from the site and its nearby dumps, prompting retaliation by the plant’s workers. The southern coastal city’s household solid waste treatment center, operated by IBC, said it would temporarily close in response to the protests, prompting Sidon MP Osama Saad, a main organizer of Friday’s protests, to say the factory must remain open. Saad said the factory was a public establishment, though operated by a private company.

وطنية - افاد ت مندوبة الوكالة الوطنية للاعلام في زحلة ماريان الحاج ان عددا كبيرا من مناصري القوات اللبنانية اعتصموا بالقرب من مخفر المعلقة على اثر توقيف خمسة شبان من مناصري القوات اللبنانية في ساحة المعلقة بناء لشكوى مقدمة من قبل المهندس اسعد نكد.
وطلبت قوى الامن من المعتصمين فك الاعتصامهم من امام المخفر، فقرر المعتصمون نقله الى ساحة المعلقة تنفيذا لقرار قوى الامن .

Protester blocked road in Aramoun

A Hizbullah supporter was handed over to security forces Tuesday evening after he shot and wounded two men during a personal dispute in the Aley District town of Aramoun, the National News Agency said.

NNA said the shooter, identified as Hajj Abu Fadi Nael, was handed over after the Progressive Socialist Party's leadership and MP Akram Shehayyeb communicated with Hizbullah, which “lifted the political cover off” the man.

The agency identified the injured as Jawad Bou Ghannam and Yamen Malaeb, saying they were transferred to hospital with gunshot wounds to their legs.

PSP supporters protest Al-Jadeed over Jumblatt skit

Dozens of Progressive Socialist Party supporters protested in front of Al-Jadeed television’s headquarters in Moseitbeh Monday night, after a comedy skit recently aired by the network mocked PSP chief Walid Jumblatt.

“With our souls and our blood, we support you Walid,” protestors chanted. An unidentified spokesperson for the demonstration called on Al-Jadeed to uphold higher standards as a media outlet.

Berri supporters open fire in Hadath; Bassil supporters bring weapons

Supporters of AMAL Movement chief Speaker Nabih Berri opened gunfire shots into the air late on Wednesday in the Beirut's southern suburbs neighborhood of Hadath in protest to the foreign minister's remarks about Berri which compelled an intervention on the Lebanese army's part, the National News Agency reported.

Berri supporters protest in Beirut, Tyre

Supporters of Speaker Nabih Berri rallied for the third consecutive day across Lebanon, with dozens waving banners and chanting slogans in Beirut and the southern city of Tyre.

The protests broke out on the streets Monday in response to a viral video in which Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil is seen calling Berri a “thug,” during a meet with supporters of his Free Patriotic Movement.
