Amal Movement slams power barges at Zahrani protest

The Amal Movement staged a protest Saturday in front of the Zahrani power plant in southern Lebanon, demanding an end to deals bringing power barges to the country and calling for the establishment of permanent power plants instead.

Speaking at the protest, Amal caretaker Finance Minister Ali Hasan Khalil said, “This stand comes to reassure our commitment to granting the people their right to receive the amount of electricity that meets their needs.”

Khalil claimed Lebanon paid "more than $7 million" a year over the past five years to provide electricity via power barges contracted in Lebanon.
