Three people were injured Sunday in a clash between residents and employees of the controversial Srar garbage dump in the northern district of Akkar.

State-run National News Agency identified the wounded as Osama Raad, Abdul Karim al-Mill and Ahmed Fadel.

It said the confrontation involved residents and bulldozer drivers.
“The residents have urged security forces to intervene,” the agency added.
Meanwhile, the Akkar is Not a Dump campaign said on its Facebook page that “the thugs of Khaldoun al-Yassine al-Merehbi opened fire from their assault rifles at residents who sought to prevent the bulldozers from carrying on with excavation works.”
It also said that residents from the area blocked the al-Abboudiyeh road “in protest at the acts of thuggery that are being committed by Khaldoun al-Yassine al-Merehbi and his thugs.”
The campaign noted that “residents are still being targeted by gunfire.”

On 18 Sep 15, protesters staged a new rally in the northern Akkar district to reject government plans to set up a “sanitary landfill” in the town of Srar, as the ministers of agriculture and interior held a meeting with the region's MPs and municipal chiefs to explain the project to them. The sit-in that was held in the square of Halba was organized by the Akkar is Not a Dumpster campaign, civil society groups, and a number of cultural, educational and social figures.

The "Akkar is not a Dump" campaign Saturday held a protest to denounce a government plan to establish a landfill in the northern district.
"The way they are dealing with us is insulting," a member of the campaign told reporters, hoping that future sit-ins would attract a larger number of demonstrators.
The demonstration was held in the Akkar town of Tal Abbas al-Gharbi.
The “We Want Accountability” movement also participated in the sit-in.
The campaign has rejected any attempt or plan by the government to establish a landfill in the district.
The Cabinet Wednesday approved a plan to solve the two-month-old garbage crisis by transforming the Srar dump, located in Akkar, into a sanitary landfill and establish another one in the east Lebanon town of Masnaa.
The two facilities would be operated for 18 months, according to the decision, however many residents suspect that the government may extend those deadlines as it had with the infamous Naameh landfill.
The government’s new plan also included reopening the Naameh landfill for seven days to dump the waste that has already accumulated in Beirut and Mount Lebanon.
Earlier this month, youth from Akkar formed a group called the "Guards of Akkar" to prevent any dump trucks from bringing in garbage from other areas of the country.
The group called in a statement Saturday for people to continue their peaceful protests.

Hundreds of residents from the northern Lebanese district of Akkar protested against the government’s plan to create a garbage dump in their area Thursday, condemning the "corrupt political class" ruling the country and accusing their representatives of "lying." A north Lebanon resident killed his son Sunday over a dispute concerning real estate inheritance, the state-run National News Agency reported. A man identified as Hasan R. opened fire at his son Naji in the Akkar town of Harar, killing him instantly. The murder took place following a dispute concerning the inheritance of real estate, according to the report.

Army units deployed in the region of Akkar on Thursday morning carried out raids in the area and arrested 16 Syrian nationals suspected of carrying out assaults on army members and committing security violations, army Command-Guidance Directorate said in a communiqué.
Two of the arrested persons were found to possess arms, ammunition and military materiel.

Masked gunmen attacked at dawn Saturday the residence of Hassan Youssef in the town of Moussala in Akkar.

The gunmen opened fire at the residence and tossed a hand grenade at it, but it failed to explode. Youssef's daughter was injured by shattering glass and rushed to hospital.
A LAF military expert removed the grenade from the center of the home as investigations ensued.
