Palestinian protesters ask for asylum in Canada

Hundreds of Palestinian refugees protested outside the Canadian Embassy Thursday morning, asking to be granted asylum. The demonstration in front of the embassy in Jal al-Dib was organized by the Palestinian Youth Organization for Humanitarian Relief in Lebanon and the Youth Movement for Palestinians in Syria. A similar protest was held in August when the organizations submitted lists of names of Palestinians residing in Lebanon who were requesting asylum in Canada.

Lebanese protesters unite against incinerators

Following the Ministry of Environment’s most recent decision to implement incinerators across the country, protestors gathered Tuesday afternoon near the ministry to demonstrate their refusal of this decision and their distrust of it.Protestors held signs that tackle Lebanon’s current environmental crisis and waste management system; they chanted slogans that call for accountability with patriotic popular songs playing in the background.

 

Protesters block Miniyeh road for the second day

For a second consecutive day, hundreds of protesters gathered on a main highway in Minyeh Wednesday, demanding an increase to electricity supply and action to fight pollution. Protesters obstructed the highway in both directions with metal barriers and parked trucks, saying they had been “forced to block” the road after security forces removed a protest tent they had erected outside the nearby Deir Ammar power plant.

Students and parents protest Baccalaureate results mix-up

Dozens of students and parents blocked the road outside the Education Ministry to protest a ministry announcement earlier this month that some students had failed their Baccalaureate exam after initially being informed they had passed. Since the announcement, the students and their families have been regularly protesting outside the ministry. The protesters Monday blocked the road by the ministry, prompting riot police and security forces to dispatch to the area.

Beddawi highway blocked in both directions in protest against lack of power supply

The residents of Beddawi on Monday blocked the highway in both directions — between Tripoli and Akkar — with cars and trucks, they have also set up a tent in the middle of the road and disclosed their intention to escalate protests until the return of power supply 20 out of 24 hours, as per a previous agreement.

Press editors protest against sector reality

Lebanon's journalists, media workers, photographers and art directors responded to the call by the Lebanese Press Editors Syndicate to hold a sit-in in the Martyrs Square this "in protest against the reality in which their sector is lying, and to uphold their threatened profession."The Director-General of the Ministry of Information, Hassan Falha, stood in solidarity with the protestors, blaming the current media reality on “everyone without exception”."

People with special needs cut off Mina road to protest their kiosks’ removal

A group of disabled persons and their families in the North have cut off the road leading to the Municipality of al-Mina - Maritime Highway, and set up a tent in the middle of the road, with the participation of a delegation from the Labor Union in the North, including former MP Mesbah al-Ahdab, to protest the removal of their kiosks along the Corniche and the Municipality’s failure to fulfill its promises to hire them.

North Lebanon residents protest trash ‘parking’ area

Hundreds protested in north Lebanon in opposition to the establishment of an area to temporarily “park” trash in the village of Terbol as part of a solution to the area’s waste crisis. Environment Minister Fadi Jreissati announced earlier this month that it would be stored there until a new sanitary landfill was built.Locals from the Minyeh-Dinnieh and Zgharta districts expressed dissatisfaction with the interim solution, blocking a main road in north Lebanon’s Minyeh Wednesday morning.

Solid waste plant workers strike in Sidon

Trash has piled up in the streets of the city of Sidon as workers of the city’s solid waste sorting plant have been striking since earlier this week over unpaid wages. Employees gathered Friday for the third day in a row to prevent trucks from entering the plant in Nabatieh’s Siniq, south of Sidon. Around 450 workers have not been paid their wages due to the state’s 13-month delay in paying the plant for treating the waste of Sidon and more than 12 other municipalities in Sidon and Zahrani Municipal Union.
