State workers strike against austerity budget

Employees of a number of government institutions across the country observed the second consecutive day of a strike Tuesday as Cabinet met for its 17th session devoted to discussing the draft 2019 state budget.

Tuesday's strike was called for by the League of Public Administration Employees last Friday, amid concern that austerity measures proposed in the budget will cut workers' wages and benefits.

The walk out included employees of administrative departments in serails in Nabatieh, Zgharta and Amioun, who attended their offices but refused to work for the second day in a row, the state-run National News Agency reported.
