On World Cancer Day, Barbara Nassar Association organised a sit-in at Sassine Square to demand access to medicines for cancer patients. Cancer medicines are still officially subsidised, which allows importers to obtain dollars to buy them from BDL at a lower rate than the parallel market. However, as the central bank's reserves are rapidly running short, the procedures to import these products are regularly delayed because of BDL’s delays in payments and therefore the medicines are currently difficult to find on the local market.

Khiam residents stage a sit-in in front of the municipality building over prices charged by private generators' owners

A number of residents in Khiam in the Nabatieh area carried out a sit-in in front of the municipality building there “to object to the high cost of the unjustified generator subscription bills.” Protestors expressed their anger at “the lack of transparency by the generator committee.” The protesters raised banners asking the municipality to consider the situation of people suffering from economic hardship, stressing that generator bills have exceeded what is reasonable, and that the municipality should be in the service of the people.

Employees of Ramco trash pick up company strike in Metn and Kesrouan to demand their unpaid wages

Workers of the Ramco company, in charge of garbage collection in Metn and Kesrouan on behalf of the state, under a contract with the Council for Development and Reconstruction, are on strike. If the workers are on strike, said Walid Bou Saad, president of Ramco, it is because the transfer of a payment to the company has still not been made by Banque du Liban, despite the signature of the finance minister. The company, he said, is seriously in debt, and can no longer pay its workers.
