Lebanon tenants enraged by new modifications to rent law

On 24 Jan 17, Lebanese tenants held a brief rally outside Speaker Nabih Berri's residence in Beirut's Ain al-Tineh to protest modifications to a controversial rent law recently introduced by Parliament.

On 23 Jan 17, at 1739hrs, around 75 persons (Tenants) organized a peaceful demonstration at Corniche El Mazraa Beirut protesting against the new law of rents and demanding its modification.

Protesters block Masnaa crossing over Madaya siege

Hundreds of demonstrators briefly blocked the road near the Masnaa border crossing in east Lebanon to protest a debilitating siege of a Syrian border town where many residents have reportedly starved to death. A similar protest was held in Beirut’s Hamra area near the Lebanese Red Cross headquarters after Al-Jamaa al-Islamiya, viewed as the Lebanese branch of the Muslim Brotherhood, called on its supporters to rally against the situation in the town of Madaya, which is being besieged by Syrian President Bashar Assad’s troops.

EDL contract workers pledge continued protests

Electricite Du Liban's contract workers staged a sit-in at EDL's premises within the frame of the part-timer's pledge of continued protests against a state memo which allows full-time jobs to 800 out of 1800 part-time employees.

Libnan Makhoul, head of the contract workers' committee said in a delivered word that he'd been subject to pressure and threats for accusing private service companies of being behind the major squandering hitting EDL.

 EDL workers burned tires inside the company's headquarters in Cornish el Nahr and prevented the employees from entering into the building, NNA field reporter said. 

Arsal residents block road in Beirut, call for army to enter Arsal

A group of citizens from Arsal blocked the road in front of Mohammad Amine mosque in Beirut, urging that the army must enter Arsal in order to help take the wounded and sick citizens to hospital for treatment.

They also called for a military deployment along the Lebanese borders in order to prevent Nusra Front and Daesh's members from entering Arsal. 

EDL contract workers stage sit-in in solidarity with KVA employees

Electricite Du Liban (EDL) contract workers staged on Tuesday morning a sit-in at the company's building in solidarity with KVA employees, the state-run National News Agency reported.        

The demonstrators also closed the customer care services at the company's headquarters in Mar Mikhael.

KVA employees stage sit in over delay in salaries

Employees of one the companies providing services to the EDL staged a sit-in in front of the KVA building to protest against the delay in the payment of their salaries, the NNA correspondent reported. 

Sports City way reopened after locals protested power outage

The Sportive City way was reopened a while ago, after locals had blocked it with flaming tires in protest at the electricity power outage in the area, the Traffic Management Center reported.

Bared Camp refugee storms into UNRWA office in Beddawi

A refugee from Nahr al Bared Camp who has taken shelter in Beddawi Camp since 2007 stormed into the office of UNRWA in Beddawi along with his family members and closed it down, NNA field correspondent reported on Friday.


Mohammad Khalil took these desperate measures after his name was taken off the list of those benefiting from monthly rent payments by UNRWA to families who lost their homes during the Nahr al Bared clashes.
