Young men protest the reopening of Al Naameh landfill

A group of young men gathered at the entrance of the Naameh landfill this afternoon, to protest the recently circulated news about reopening the landfill, and also attempted to cut-off the coastal highway for some time in al-Naameh locality.

Sabaa Party activists storm Parliament

Activists stormed Lebanon’s Parliament building Friday to protest corruption and the country’s deteriorating economic situation.Forty activists fromSabaa political party , wearing T-shirts bearing the slogan “Civil Resistance” were able to enter Parliament’s General Assembly hall. Riot police and the Internal Security Forces arrived on the scene and arrested 10 protesters. Friday’s action was only the first phase of a planned series of “civil resistance” protests, calling on “all people” to join the party in its future demonstrations.

Communist Party protests economic situation

Dozens of members of the Lebanese Communist Party held a demonstration beginning outside the Association of Banks in Lebanon Sunday to protest the country’s deteriorating economic situation. Having begun at ABL's headquarters at the entrance to Beirut's Gemmayze district, the protesters marched to Riad al-Solh Square and then to the Lebanese Central Bank. Riot police and Lebanese Army soldiers deployed to the protest and formed a line blocking the entrance to the association's building.

Sit-in organized in Nabatieh to protest garbage accumulation

A group of activists and citizens organized a sit-in in the center of the commercial market in the city of Nabatieh to protest the accumulation of waste in the streets and containers. Various roads in the heart of Nabatieh were blocked in the process causing traffic congestion. 

Charqiyeh residents organize sit-in

The residents of Charqiyeh staged a sit-in in the town square to protest  the establishment of a landfill for the Nabatiyeh area in the eastern outskirts of their town because of the environmental and health damages, especially since the landfill is intended to be built near residential houses and schools.

Gas station owners warn of renewed strike

Gas station owners and fuel distributors warned of an open-ended strike starting Monday if there are no positive developments regarding the exchange of currency, calling into question a deal reached just last Friday and implemented this week.

Second Sunday protests of dire economy

Several hundred people gathered in Downtown Beirut to protest against Lebanon’s worsening economic and living conditions for a second consecutive Sunday. Recent events have brought the country’s precarious financial situation to the forefront of public concern. After expanding by just a quarter of a percent in 2018, the economy has not grown in 2019.The protesters gathered in Martyrs’ Square, moved to Riad al-Solh square and then stood outside the Grand Serail. Riot police guarded the government’s headquarters.

Veterans block VAT building entrances in protest

Veterans blocked the entrances of the Finance Ministry’s VAT building protesting austerity measures imposed on them in the 2019 budget and delays to payments for new retirees. Retired Brig. Gen. Sami al-Rammah called on the Finance Ministry to pay delayed “retirement benefits and school aid” to the veterans.The veterans held a series of protests against deductions to their pensions in the 2019 state budget before it was endorsed by Parliament in July.

Protesters block road facing Ghaziye junction with burning tires

A number of angry yung protesters cut off the southern highway at the Ghaziye junction, facing Al-Amelieh cooperative, with flaming tires, in protest of the deteriorating economic and financial situation.

Protesters block the Nabatie - Kfar Dajjal road

A group of young protesters burned banners this evening in the middle of the main road between Kfar Dajjal and Nabatieh. They gathered in the middle of the road to protest against the poor living conditions and the economic situation while chanting slogans against state and government officials. An internal security force patrol came to the scene and monitored the youth movement.
