"We Start Today" collective launched an online campaign  “It’s not just any day”  to encourage people to vote against traditional “Zaims”.

بس هيدا ما بيمنع إنو عنّا كثير تساؤلات على هودي اللوائح وعالمرشحين/ات وعلى التحالفات والبرامج والمصداقية والاتجاهات السياسية… إلخ إلخ.
هالشي ما عم بريّحنا كناخبين/ات مهتمين/ات نوصّل صوتنا ومطالبنا لجوا البرلمان وكمان لنتطوّع مع هالحملات، خاصة إنو ما رح نشوف اللوائح والبرامج والتحالفات النهائية قبل ٢٧ آذار.

“Take Action” campaign

A comic book, one of a thousand others, was found on someone’s car in Hamra Street, Beirut. It was titled Elections, the Lebanese Way; and on one of its pages, a lady is drawn next to her words: “I wish I can vote for George Clooney instead of all of those candidates.”

Thousands rally at Women's march in Beirut

Thousands took to the streets in Beirut Sunday to voice their “shared anger” on a range of issues facing women in Lebanon to mark International Women’s Day.

The march started at noon under the slogan, “Different Causes, Shared Anger.” Colorful posters and banners spoke out against domestic violence, child marriage and violence targeting domestic workers and trans women.

"We have one struggle, one anger, even though we’re all covering very different grounds," Mira Mawla, an activist from Feminist Network, which helped organize the march, told The Daily Star.

Sidon commemorates Popular Nasserite Organization founder

Sidon residents took to the streets to commemorate the 43rd anniversary of the death of the Popular Nasserite Organization founder, the late Sidon MP Maarouf Saad.

"Maarouf, the voice of the people, Maarouf, the voice of the truth," people chanted, waving Lebanese and Palestinian flags and posters of Saad.

Saad was assassinated on Feb. 26, 1975, and his death is considered a defining moment that contributed to the 1975-1990 Civil War.

Lebanon protest Turkey's Syria offensive

Hundreds protested in Lebanon against Turkey's military offensive in Syria's Kurdish enclave of Afrin.

Several demonstrations in support of Syria's Kurds have taken place in the Lebanese capital and across the world since Ankara launched its operation last month.

The demonstrators, some of them refugees and others members of Lebanon's long-established Kurdish community, held their protest near the U.S. embassy on the outskirts of Beirut.

They described feeling abandoned by Washington.

Protests in solidarity with Berri extend to Lebanese University

Employees at the Lebanese University in Hadath staged a protest in solidarity with Speaker Nabih Berri as part of the fourth day of actions in support of the speaker.

“Today we are protesting in a civil manner and will continue to do so because we feel that the nation is in danger with this language we’re hearing today,” Ali Chehade, an Amal supporter, told MTV Lebanon.

Protests were sparked Monday after a video of Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil was leaked in which he called Berri a “thug.”

Kurds protest Turkish Afrin offensive outside Russian Embassy in Beirut

Roughly a thousand Kurds held a demonstration near the Russian Embassy in Beirut’s Corniche al-Mazraa to protest the incursion of Turkish troops into Syria’s Kurdish-held Afrin region.

A security source told The Daily Star that the protest had “choked” traffic in the area, and that Internal Security Forces personnel had positioned themselves to prevent any attempt by protesters to enter the embassy.

Marcel Ghanem Interrogated as Protesters Brave Rain to Show Solidarity

Prominent TV talk show host Marcel Ghanem appeared before Mount Lebanon First Examining Magistrate Nicola Mansour in connection with a controversial episode of his Kalam Ennas show, as protesters braved heavy rain to express solidarity with him outside the Baabda Justice Palace.

Ghanem’s lawyer, MP Butros Harb, meanwhile filed procedural defenses that were accepted by Mansour and the session was adjourned to February 2.
