Longtime tenants protest against police acts | Lebanese Civilians |
On 24 Mar 16, longtime tenants took to the streets to voice their anger at what they say is a misuse of police force in a long-running dispute between renters and landlords. Protesters near the home of General Prosecutor Samir Hammoud in Beirut's Wata Moseitbeh neighborhood decried landlords' use of police escorts to forcibly allow property appraisers to enter and evaluate their residences, saying this move is a violation of the law and shows a clear bias towards the owners of "old rent" buildings. The rally then continued to Mazraa and stopped outside the house of Speaker Nabih Berri in Ain el-Tineh. |
