Zahrani refugee settlement bulldozed due to pollution
Thirteen tents in an informal refugee settlement in southern Lebanon’s Zahrani were bulldozed as a result of the Litani River Authority’s anti-pollution campaign the area.
The state-run National News Agency reported that the settlement, located in Zahrani’s Aaqbiyeh, had been home to around 180 people living in 13 tents, while Nassim Abou Hamad, head of the LRA’s water governance department, gave the number as between 100 and 110 Syrian refugees.
“Sewage from the camp was polluting the surrounding area. Pollution must be stopped whether it comes from Lebanese or non-Lebanese citizens,”: Sami Alawieh, the LRA’s general director.
