Authorities arrested a Syrian national allegedly preparing to carry out a suicide attack in Lebanon according to the General Security.

During questioning, the suspect reportedly told authorities he grew up in Syria’s Raqqa region, where he admitted to joining Daesh (ISIS) and carrying out orders on their behalf as a recruiter. Daesh overran Raqqa in early 2014 after the city was taken by opposition groups, turning the northern city into the de facto Syrian capital of their so-called “caliphate.”

The suspect, born in 1999, underwent military, weapons and explosives manufacturing training with the militant group. He then signed up to be a suicide bomber and participated in an induction course, the statement continued.

After physical and psychological preparation for his attack, he was ordered to join the Al-Qaeda affiliated Bilal Badr organization in the south Lebanon Palestinian refugee camp of Ain al-Hilweh in order to prepare for the bombing. The suspect entered Lebanon illegally with the assistance of a smuggler and temporarily settled in Beirut in preparation for his move to Ain al-Hilweh. His arrest reportedly prevented him from implementing the plan. He was referred to the judiciary.

This security incident was mapped according to the closest possible location.
