The Internal Security Forces has arrested a man suspected of raping a woman after she arrived at Mreijeh police station in a state of distress, an ISF statement reported Wednesday.

The woman, born in 1996, told officers that on the night of Dec. 10, a man she identified as R. raped her and abandoned her in a mountainous area she did not recognize, after he had said he would drive her to her home in Hay al-Sellom.

A doctor then examined the woman and confirmed she had been raped and physically assaulted.

After investigations, the Mreijeh police identified the culprit as Lebanese national R.Q., born 1992, and arrested him.

The suspect admitted to the crime and was referred to the judicial police in the ISF’s Anti-Human Trafficking and Morals Protection Bureau for further investigation.
