أعلنت المديرية العامة لقوى الأمن الداخلي - شعبة العلاقات العامة، أنّ "الساعة 15:10 من تاريخ 2 تموز 2018، حصل إطلاق نار في محلّة المريجة، بُعيد صدور نتائج الإمتحانات الرسمية لشهادة البكالوريا"، موضحةً أنّ "من خلال الإستقصاءات والتحريات الّتي قامت بها فصيلة المريجة في وحدة الدرك الإقليمي، تمكّن عناصرها من معرفة هوية مطلق النار، وتبيّن أنّه أحد الطلاب الناجحين، ويدعى: "م. أ." وهو لبناني من مواليد عام 1998".

وبيّنت في بلاغ، أنّ "بناءً على إشارة القضاء المختص، جرى إحضاره إلى مركز الفصيلة، بعد مداهمة منزله الكائن في محلّة المريجة، وضُبط في داخل المنزل السلاح المستخدم وهو من نوع "كلاشنكوف"، وأُحيل الموقوف مع المضبوط إلى القضاء المختص".
