بتاريخ 23/09/2016 ورد مقطع فيديو على أحد مواقع التواصل الاجتماعي، يظهر فيه قيام شخص مجهول الهوية بترويج عملة مزيفة في مطعم بمدينة صيدا، فأحيل إلى مكتب مكافحة الجرائم المالية وتبييض الأموال في وحدة الشرطة القضائية للمتابعة.
ونتيجة للتحريات الحثيثة تمكن المكتب المذكور من رصد الفاعل وتوقيفه بتاريخ 23/10/2016، في بلدة البيرة - عكار، وهو: أ . س . ( مواليد عام 1977، لبناني)
وضبط بحوزته ورقتان من فئة المئة دولار ومثلهما من فئة المئة ألف ليرة لبنانية جميعها مزيفة، وتبين أن اللبنانية منها تحمل الرقم التسلسلي ذاته الذي وجد على الورقة التي كان قد أعطاها لصاحب المطعم في مدينة صيدا، والتحقيق جارٍ بإشراف القضاء المختص.
