37 undocumented Syrian refugees were Monday arrested after the Lebanese Army raided encampments in the eastern Bekaa town of al-Qaa, a security source told The Daily Star. The arrested Syrians were suspected of having crossed the border illegally.

The army regularly raids informal Syrian refugee encampments across Lebanon in search of gunmen and militants as part of an effort to clamp down on dormant extremist cells operating in the country.

The security source told The Daily Star that these operations have been routine, "especially in the Bekaa region."
