Two men in their late thirties were arrested in Kesrouan’s Maameltein after conning a woman out of $9,000, the Internal Security Forces said Thursday.
The two Iraqi men, identified as I.H., born in 1979, and A.K., born in 1976, allegedly told the elderly woman Thursday that they were from an Arab country, and wanted to exchange their currency to be able to donate money.
Instead, they exchanged the $10,000 with a “large amount” of the foreign currency “that is of little value and [commonly] used in frauds,” a statement from the ISF said.
It was not immediately clear what the exact currency used was, and the ISF could not be reached for comment.
The alleged conmen were arrested less than 24 hours following the incident and confessed to the accusation and admitted to carrying out a similar operation, robbing $10,000 out of another elderly woman living in the Unesco area, according to the statement.
The ISF called victims who could identify the two men pictured to make themselves known in Verdun to take the necessary legal action.
