BEIRUT: The Internal Security Forces on Thursday announced the arrest of two men who shared a video of them assaulting a man suffering from a psychological disorder in north Lebanon.

The two men, 23 and 39, allegedly beat up a 31-year-old man known as Abou Antar, who suffers from a mental illness, and documented their assault.

The incident was being shared through WhatsApp.

Police in the northern city of Tripoli arrested the two suspects.

The 23-year-old suspected admitted to filming and sharing the video, saying it was meant as a joke.

The second suspect also confessed to beating up the man at his accomplice’s shop in Tripoli’s Al-Tall neighborhood.

The victim, who was also questioned, said he had also been beaten until he lost consciousness six months ago. He said that he hadn’t gone to the police earlier out of fear.

A further investigation by the judiciary is underway.
