BEIRUT: Truck drivers blocked a road in south Lebanon to protest labor restrictions on the number of days drivers are allowed to work. Drivers in the Nabatieh town of Kfar Roummane called on authorities to “allow them to work freely” as truck drivers in other regions of the country are able to work without restrictions. In south Lebanon, truck drivers are limited to working Mondays and Thursdays. The protest followed an incident Friday in which local authorities arrested 10 truck drivers and seized their vehicles for violating working hour laws. During Saturday’s protest, demonstrators also urged the Internal Security Forces to release the 10 trucks that had been impounded. Some threatened to escalate the situation if the trucks were not returned.
