On 21 Oct 16, Garbage has begun to pile up again on the streets of Beirut and Mount Lebanon after trash collectors went on strike over fears they may soon lose their jobs. Workers belonging to waste contractor Sukleen and its sister company Sukomi began their open-ended strike at midnight , calling on the companies to heed their demands. They blocked access to the Amrousieh and Karantina sorting plants, closed down offices and stopped collecting garbage.
