Striking truck drivers blocked a major highway between Beirut and northern Lebanon, demanding the fair treatment of sand miners.

More than 35 drivers from the Kesrouan region used their trucks to block the highway from Jounieh to Beirut, causing heavy traffic between Tabarja and Nahr al-Kalb.
Monday’s strike is the latest in a series of actions that have threatened to tangle traffic.
During last week’s blockade of a vital Kesrouan highway, drivers protested the authorities' disparate treatment of sand miners in the region.
“The truck drivers say that police have been bothering them,” President of the Trucker’s Association Chafik Kassis had told the Daily Star. “They want to be treated equally as fellow sand miners in the south, east and north.”
The miners have complained that authorities have prevented them from extracting sand and gravel from Kesrouan quarries, despite having permits.
