Saadi was shot dead at the entrance of the Sidon-area camp’s Safsaf neighborhood on Sept. 15, allegedly by Mohammad al-Arqoub, who is believed to be affiliated with fundamentalist Islamist groups, raising security concerns in the camp.
Palestinian security sources said at the time that more than 10 shots had been fired at Saadi and multiple bullets hit him in the head.
Tensions in Ain al-Hilweh escalated after the killing, with schools and shops closing their doors last Monday in fear of security escalations. UNRWA has also refrained from picking up garbage, fearing for its employees’ safety.
