Secondary teachers staged a sit-in in Riad al-Solh Square Wednesday morning to express dissatisfaction with what they consider a low adjustment in the salary hike bill.

At the sit-in, Fouad Dirani read a statement on behalf of the teachers calling for full employment, pensions and full benefits.

Other workers joined teachers weathering the wet conditions outside Parliament to protest the salary adjustment bill.

Teachers in the north - Tripoli went on strike at the Lebanese University, closing all faculties in solidarity with teachers in Beirut. This is the latest in a number of protests by the teachers over the matter.

Finance Minister Ali Hasan Khalil estimated the controversial bill, which would restructure public sector pay, would cost LL1.2 trillion ($800 million). This would be funded through tax increases, a number of which MPs approved.
