Syrian pharmacist arrested in Lebanon over illegal medical practice
Authorities arrested a Syrian pharmacist in north Lebanon for practicing medicine illegally, state media reported.
A patrol from State Security Directorate General in Minyeh district apprehended a Syrian pharmacist in a crackdown of a warehouse allegedly used as a dispensary in the town of Bhenin, the National News Agency said.
The pharmacist, identified by his initials as M.H., received patients in the warehouse and mislead them into believing he was a physician, it said.
“A large quantity of smuggled medicine from Syria was confiscated,” it said, adding that the warehouse was used as a “specialist clinic.”
A woman, identified by her initials as F.Aa., was also detained for her role in running the center.
The two suspects allegedly admitted to the charges. They were referred to the judiciary for legal actions.
The warehouse was sealed with red wax by order from the Financial Prosecutor.
This is not the first time unauthorized medical practice was been uncovered.
On June 9, Health Ministry inspectors arrested two non-Lebanese doctors, who had been practicing medicine without legal permits and using expired medication. The two doctors, married, had been practicing medicine at their clinic in their house in Dohat Aramoun, south of Beirut.
