A Syrian man residing in Lebanon was charged with extorting a Syrian woman living abroad. The suspect was identified as Y.Y., born in 1992. According to the victim, Y.Y. threatened to post private photos of her on various social media platforms – including Facebook, Twitter and dating site Zarka Chat – if she refused to comply with his demands. Following his threats, the victim reported the case, which falls into the category of “sextortion,” to the Cyber Crimes Division of the Internal Security Forces. During questioning, Y.Y. admitted to filming the woman on Skype and using the footage to blackmail her.
