The Internal Security Forces  announced the arrest of a Syrian employee on charges of stealing from his employer in Beirut’s southern suburbs.

In a statement, the ISF announced that the manager of Prince Co-op, a store in Tahwitat al-Ghadir, called police informing them that around L.L 12,000,000 ($8,000) had been stolen from a metal safe in the office.

The ISF investigated a new employee, 26-year-old Syrian H.K, who had just started working there the day before the robbery.

Upon questioning the suspect, he confessed to going up to the third floor around closing time, and hiding in the sweets section until everyone had left and the door was locked.

He then cut the electricity, broke into the safe, and stole L.L 11,400,000 ($7,600) from within.

When the manager opened the store the next day, H.K was hiding behind a stand, and once the manager was in, the suspect was able to run away undetected.

H.K confessed to spending some of the stolen money to settle debts and buy necessities. The rest of the funds were recovered at his house and returned to Prince Co-op.

He was referred to the judiciary for further investigation.
