On the 14th of September, a Palestinian national was arrested by General Security for involvement in the illegal trafficking of weapons and on suspicion of being linked to terrorist groups.

Identified as M.A.H., the suspect reportedly first arrived in Lebanon in 1988, with the intent of establishing an illegal weapons trade in Sidon’s Palestinian camp of Ain al-Hilweh. Upon interrogation, M.A.H. allegedly confessed to his crimes and added that since 2007 he had been part of several terrorist organizations. These included Daesh (ISIS), Jabhat Fatah al-Sham – formerly known as the Nusra Front – Jund al-Sham and Shabab al-Muslim.

During interrogations, M.A.H. expressed remorse for his wrongdoings and participating in the dealing of illegal arms in the camp. He also admitted to collaborating with individuals inside the camp, including at-large extremists Bilal Badr, Chadi al-Mawlawi and pop singer Fadel Shaker. M.A.H. took part in several terrorist attacks that threatened national security, which ranged from individual scuffles, to clashes with Fatah Movement and the joint Palestinian security forces designed to wrestle control of Ain al-Hilweh.
