State Security Wednesday arrested a man in the northern district of Zgharta for allegedly belonging to al-Nusra Front - now known as Jabhat Fatah al-Sham - and participating in clashes against the Lebanese Army, a statement from the agency reported.

The Syrian man, identified as Khaled A., was arrested in the town of Sebaal for “belonging to the al-Nusra Front and for his illegal entry into Lebanon,” according to the statement.

During his interrogation, the suspect reportedly admitted to taking part in clashes alongside the group in the eastern town of Arsal.

The suspect was handed over to intelligence services in the north under the supervision of the military court.

Daesh and al-Nusra briefly overran Arsal in 2014. When the militants withdrew from the town, they took over 30 Army and police personnel with them. They remained on the outskirts of the town until July, when Hezbollah launched an offensive on both sides of the Lebanese border aided by the Syrian army on the Syrian side, forcing militants into a tiny pocket of land.

The militants were then sent via bus to Syrian territory, still under Daesh control at the time.
