State Security seized a three-kilogram parcel of Captagon pills bound for Saudi Arabia.

The agency said that it received information Aug. 19 about a suspicious package that was to be shipped by courier from a Lebanese express-shipping company to Saudi Arabia. State Security proceeded to raid a warehouse in Sin al-Fil, seizing the package.

The pills were reportedly sourced from the Bekaa Valley and were wrapped in nylon bags and carbon paper, concealed within trophies.

Captagon is an amphetamine often used by party-goers in Gulf States and in Saudi Arabia where alcohol is forbidden. The drug is also used by militants in regional conflicts, including Daesh (ISIS) in Syria and Iraq, to remain awake and alert for long hours, often for several days.

After investigations, State Security said it determined that the manager of a travel agency in Zahle sent the parcel at the request of an unknown Lebanese national. State Security said that the man had no previous convictions. The identity of the Saudi Arabian national who was set to receive the package has also been established.
