National News Agency correspondent on Thursday reported a stampede among the security forces and a number of supporters of the Free Patriotic Movement as they tried to get close to the Grand Serail, leaving one injured among demonstrators.
Army called in further reinforcements, while an anti-riot unit arrived to the scene.
MP Ibrahim Kanaan intervened to disperse the crowds.
