South Lebanon teacher suspended for allegedly beating student
BEIRUT: Education Minister Marwan Hamadeh announced that a south Lebanon teacher has been suspended after an investigation into allegations that he had beaten a 10-year-old student.
The National News Agency reported that the head of the Ministry of Education's pedagogical zone in the southern city of Sidon, Bassem Abbas, had briefed the minister on the investigation’s report on the alleged beating of Ahmad al-Masri, a fifth grade student.
The report said that witness testimonials, a medical report and an administrative investigation carried out by the school indicated that the incident had occurred.
The minister immediately tasked Abbas with suspending the teacher and referring the case and its appendices to the ministry in order to take disciplinary action against him.
On Thursday, after noticing bruises on his chest, Ahmad's parents admitted the 10-year-old to the hospital.
He told his parents that he had been hit by a teacher at the Lebanese Kuwaiti Public School in Sidon.
His mother, Nazek Chahine, then contacted the ministry of education, demanding that disciplinary measures be taken against the teacher.
