كشفت وزارة المالية في بيان أنّ "جمارك مرفأ طرابلس ضبطت تمثالاً أثريّاً مهرّباً من الولايات المتحدة الأميركية إلى لبنان بطريقة احترافية، كان سبق أن سُرق من لبنان وهُرّب إليها بعيد انتهاء الحرب في لبنان قبل نحو 25 عاماً".

وأشارت إلى أنّه "تمّ توقيف مهرّب التمثال وهو رجل مسنّ لبناني الجنسية ويخضع الآن للتحقيق".

ولفت مدير عام الجمارك بدري ضاهر، إلى أنّ "لعملية التهريب صلة بالمداهمات الّتي أجرتها السلطات الأميركية لمنزل الأخير وأنّ متابعة مديرية الجمارك الحثيثة للقضية أدّت إلى كشف عملية التهريب وضبطها".
