Two masked gunmen Wednesday tried to storm a branch of Byblos Bank in Shoueifat, south of Beirut, but were stopped by the bank’s security guards.
A security source told The Daily Star the assailants quickly approached the bank and knocked down the security guard standing outside the door, causing him to collapse.
Another man standing guard inside the bank quickly closed and locked the door behind him, preventing the assailants from entering.
The robbers fled to an unknown destination, the source said.
The same branch was robbed in broad daylight three years ago.
