SIDON, Lebanon: The Lebanese Army heightened security measures overnight Tuesday near the Palestinian refugee camp of Ain al-Hilweh after receiving information of possible attacks against checkpoints, security sources said Wednesday. Sources said that Army units surrounding the camp and posted at entrances were put on alert after information was received that they might be the target of a terrorist act. Accordingly, the Army strengthened its measures and procedures around the camp, and there has been more thorough inspection and scrutiny of the identity of citizens, especially women. Female soldiers have been called in to assist and search suspects. These measures were also employed at Army checkpoints surrounding the Mieh Mieh Palestinian refugee camp, near Sidon. The rumored threats against the Army and the consequent measures come after Palestinian national Imad Yassin, suspected of being a Daesh (ISIS) emir in Ain al-Hilweh, was arrested by the Army.
