On 15 Nov 16, a number of residents in Beirut's southern suburbs and the eastern city of Baalbek protested the arrest of a mobile phone dealer accused of smuggling. Local media reported that protesters blocked both the old and new airport roads about a kilometer from the Beirut international airport just south of the capital to protest the arrest of Kamel Amhaz, the owner of several mobile phone shops in the area. The arrest came as a joint effort between Lebanese police and Interpol. In Baalbek, members of the Amhaz clan blocked the nearby international highway to protest the arrest. Amhaz was allegedly arrested for charges of smuggling mobile phones with the help of two military personnel.
