The controversial decision by U.S. President Donald Trump to unilaterally recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel has continued to spark protests in south Lebanon.

Students at Amjad University showed their support to the Palestinian cause in a demonstration next to the statue of the scientist Hassan Kamel al-Sabah in northern Nabatieh.

Sheikh Maher Hamoud, the Imam of the Jerusalem Mosque in Sidon, spoke at the demonstration, demanding a "the continuation of the Intifada, whatever the sacrifices” and for it to be “supported by all means." He also called for protests “in the Arab and Islamic world until Trump retreats from his fateful decision."

American and Israeli flags were also burned after the event, whilst a portrait of Trump had shoes thrown at it.

Lebanese youth organizations gathered more than 1,000 students outside the main gate of the UNIFIL headquarters in Naqoura, chanting slogans against President Trump's decision in Arabic, English and Hebrew. They held aloft pictures of Jerusalem, Palestinian and Lebanese flags, and Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah.
